Philis – Kenya

Philis has been a farmer for more than 20 years, and is now proud to represent her group of 19 farmers in Teso District. She is 37 years old, married and has four children.

Philis likes to think of herself as a very reliable person. She has been working alongside One Acre Fund since 2018 and decided to represent her group because she wanted to be more active in her community. She says that being part of the One Acre Fund community has meant that she has been able to consistently feed her family. Philis plans to use the profits from this coming season to send her children to school.

In total, Philis’ Group will receive inputs to cultivate 8.75 acres of land. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of nine solar lights.

More about this loan

This loan is special because: it supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.

This loan is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agricultural package, which provides groups of smallholder farmers with seeds and fertilizers on credit, onsite agricultural training, and insurance options. Borrowers also have the option to purchase solar lanterns as part of the loan package.
